Augustin Vineyard in Elkton, Oregon
Planted in 2007 by Gillian Rose Seitz, a lover of English roses and proprietor of the former Gillirose Wines. We are honored to continue stewarding and caring for this land.
In 2022, we renamed the vineyard after Colin’s great-grandfather, Edward Augustin Duddy, whose memoir inspired us to pursue our own creative paths. Born in 1884 in Portland, Maine, he lived a life of many chapters: photographer, teacher, farmer, reporter, and ultimately a professor at the University of Chicago. His curiosity and willingness to follow new directions inspired us, and we hope our own meandering paths honor his legacy.
Our blue 1907 farmhouse sits tucked among the vines on our 10 acre property. Five acres are planted to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and a small block of Riesling. In winter, the sound of the Umpqua River carries through the vineyard, while the nearby Pacific Ocean brings cooling winds inland each evening.
We are located in the Elkton Oregon AVA, in the Northwest corner of the larger Umpqua Valley AVA. Known for warm days and cool nights, Elkton is especially well suited to Pinot Noir and cool climate white wines.
